Engagement results

7 September 2026

Between 10 and 30 August 2026, we heard from 355 people who most commonly described the jetty as a place for river access, recreation, family memories, connection to nature and community wellbeing.

While 90% of participants supported repairing and reopening the jetty, others raised concerns about cost, competing priorities and the availability of nearby alternatives.

Next Steps

Community feedback will be considered alongside safety requirements, repair costs, ongoing maintenance, nearby alternative facilities and Traditional Owner engagement before a recommendation is presented to Council later in 2026. Council are the final decision maker for the future of Gunbower Jetty.

Keep an eye out for the agenda on the City of Melville website.
