Located on The Esplanade in Mount Pleasant, Gunbower Jetty has long been a local feature of the Mount Pleasant foreshore, providing a place for people to enjoy the Swan River for fishing, kayaking and passive recreation.

The jetty was closed in early 2026 after independent inspections found the structure was not safe for public use.

While the closure is temporary, a long-term decision is now required. We are asking the community to share what they jetty means to them and what they think should happen before a recommendation is presented to Council.

Any recommendation will consider public safety, repair costs, ongoing maintenance and long-term asset management. It will also consider nearby public jetties, Mount Henry Jetty, about 600 metres away, and Deep Water Point Jetty, about 850 metres away. These sites also provide river access and facilities such as parking, toilets, playgrounds and café facilities.

The City understands Gunbower Jetty may still hold local value for people who use or care about this part of the foreshore.

What are the options?

With preliminary estimates indicating a like for like reinstatement of the jetty may cost about $700,000. Removing the jetty is estimated to cost about $100,000. We want to hear from the local community, visitors and river users to understand your preference for the jetty’s future before a recommendation is presented to Council.

The options being considered are:

• Refurbish and reopen the jetty
• Permanently close and decommission the jetty
