Planning for safer streets
The City of Melville plans and delivers road and traffic projects through its capital works program, community requests and strategic priorities to support safe, accessible and well-connected local areas across the City.
Through Safe Streets Melville, the City delivers traffic calming, safety improvements and road investigations to improve safety, access and movement.
Projects are informed by traffic data, safety assessments and community feedback. The City considers how streets are used, identifies potential risks, and assesses opportunities to improve safety and access for all road users.
Projects, plans and opportunities to provide feedback are outlined below.

Burke Drive Traffic Study
The Burke Drive Traffic Study is being undertaken to better understand how traffic moves through the area and identify opportunities to improve safety and access for all road users. The study is considering traffic volumes and speeds, movement patterns, safety and crash history, and how the street is used by residents, visitors and other road users.
Community knowledge and lived experience are an important part of this process and help provide valuable local insight to complement the technical investigations being undertaken as part of the study.
Two community workshops were held on 10 and 17 June 2026, providing participants with the opportunity to share their local knowledge and experiences, discuss traffic issues and explore potential traffic treatment options. A total of 45 community members attended the workshops.
The online survey is now open and provides a further opportunity for residents, road users and visitors to share their experiences, identify traffic and road safety issues, and provide feedback on potential traffic management measures. Feedback received through the survey will help the City better understand community priorities and inform the development and assessment of potential traffic management options for Burke Drive. Survey closes 4.00pm on Friday, 17 July 2026.
Insights gathered through the workshops and online survey will help inform the development and assessment of potential traffic management solutions, with findings and recommended options to be presented to Council at a future Ordinary Meeting of Council for consideration.
