Help tell the story of Point Waylen
The City of Melville is planning to restore and enhance the Point Waylen foreshore in Attadale, creating healthier habitat for local wildlife while improving opportunities for the community to experience and appreciate this unique natural environment.
The project forms part of the Attadale Alfred Cove Foreshore Masterplan and aims to protect this environmentally significant area, which borders the Swan Estuary Marine Park and supports more than 130 bird species, including internationally protected migratory birds.
Point Waylen is one of the City's most significant foreshore reserves and plays an important role in protecting biodiversity along the Swan River.
The restoration will:
- Improve habitat for native plants, birds and wildlife.
- Help protect the Swan Estuary Marine Park.
- Improve vegetation that filters stormwater and reduces erosion.
- Create opportunities for the community to connect with nature through education and recreation.
The restoration project includes:
- Revegetating approximately 21,000m² of degraded foreshore with native plants.
- Restoring habitat for local wildlife and migratory bird species.
- Improving walking paths and managing access to protect sensitive areas.
- Installing interpretive signage to help visitors learn about the site's environmental and cultural significance.
- Creating a Bushland Community Circle for environmental education and small community gatherings.
- Adding seating and viewing areas to encourage people to enjoy the natural environment responsibly.
