Help shape the review of these Local Laws

Local laws are established by local governments to regulate certain activities within their local area. They help protect public health and safety, support community wellbeing and guide the use of public spaces and facilities.

Local laws are reviewed periodically to ensure they remain relevant, appropriate and continue to meet the needs of the community.

At the October 2026 Ordinary Meeting of Council, Council endorsed public advertising of three local laws as part of the City's statutory review process under section 3.16 of the Local Government Act 1995.

The local laws under review are:

The purpose of the statutory review is to consider whether each local law should remain unchanged, be amended or be repealed, while ensuring the City meets its legislative review requirements.

The City is also undertaking separate work to modernise its local laws and respond to changes in legislation.

Submissions received during the public advertising period will be considered as part of the statutory review process and presented to Council to inform its decision.
