Creating exciting play spaces

Harry Patterson Park, nestled in the heart of Kardinya, is set to undergo a park and playground renewal, and the community's voice has been central to shaping its future.

A range of potential upgrades were considered for Harry Patterson Park, with the City having sought input from the local community to help shape the future of this much-loved neighbourhood space.

The park has mostly been used for recreation and informal gatherings, and features a playground and basketball hoop. The playground is due for renewal, and we also explored broader park improvements across two stages of engagement.

The second round of community voting closed 4pm Monday, 11 May 2026, with option 3 the preferred play equipment.

While we loved the idea of a flying fox, it wasn't included as one of the final options, as a detailed site assessment identified constraints and costs that meant it was not feasible for this project.

Instead, we used your feedback on what you’d like to see changed at the park to develop a plan that includes:

  • New play features, including a small play unit with slide, toddler play elements, and a 360° basket swing selected in Stage 1
  • Basketball court upgrades with a slightly larger court, new tower and backboard
  • Improved landscaping with additional tree planting and a picnic table
  • New paths and a small bike/scooter loop
  • Enhanced streetscape, including upgrades to the South Street walkway and artwork wraps for the power box and irrigation cabinet along Stanbury Place.
