Planning for dogs, cats and shared spaces

We are developing a Dog and Cat Management and Exercise Plan to help guide the future of animal management services, dog exercise areas, responsible pet ownership programs and animal welfare initiatives.

Through the Paws for Thought survey and interactive map, we heard from 829 community members who shared their experiences, ideas and priorities relating to animal management, dog exercise areas, responsible pet ownership and wildlife protection. Community feedback is helping to shape the development of the Plan and identify the issues that matter most to our community.

As our community grows and changes, it's important that our parks, reserves and public spaces continue to meet the needs of pet owners, non-pet owners, wildlife and the broader community.

The Plan will help guide future decisions, programs and services by balancing the needs of people, pets and wildlife across the City of Melville. We are considering a range of topics including:

• Dog exercise areas (on-lead, off-lead, and prohibited areas)
• Responsible cat and dog ownership
• Cat containment
• Animal welfare
• Community safety and compliance
